Unifi: Optimize (BT) Torrent Download - Part3

We have done:
  1. Part 1: How To Change UniFi Router Primary and Secondary DNS Address
  2. Part 2: How To Set Static IP in UniFi Router
By now you shall be able to surf The Pirate Bay with a stable connection to the internet. You may check your internet speed using a speed tester like www.speedtest.net. In Part 3, we shall make some tweaks to make sure torrent downloads to our torrent client is smooth. Talking about torrent client, I am referring to utorrent, bittorrent and others. Also, we shall talk about eMule setup too.

Part 3: How to Set Port Forwarding for µTorrent and eMule
µTorrent

Step 1: Download and install utorrent.

Step 2: Go to Option, Preference.

Step 3: Click Connection page.

Step 4: Give a 5 digits number (i.e. 33333) in the blank beside Random port.

Tick:
  • Enable NAT-PMP port mapping
  • Add Windows Firewall exception
Un-tick:
  • Randomize port each start
  • Enable UPnP port mapping.

Then, click OK.

eMule (Skip if you are not using it)

Step 1: Download and install eMule.

Step 2: Go to Option.

Step 3: Click Connection page.

Step 4: Give a 5 digits number (i.e. 22222 and 55555) in the TCP and UDP blanks. Un-tick Use UPnP to Setup Ports. Then, click OK.

Unifi Router Setting

Step 1: Type "192.168.0.1" into your browser and hit enter. This will lead you to the router's config page.

Step 2: You are being asked to key in the Username and Password. There are some preset combination of it, you may try a few from here: http://unifi.athena.my/router_security.php

Step 3: Now you see the Port Forwarding in the ADVANCE menu page.

Step 4: Key in a name for your torrent client under Name and key in your device static IP under Private IP, refer back to Part 2 if you have forgotten how to set static IP in UniFi Router. Lastly, key in the 5 digits number you assign for your torrent client, i.e. 33333.

For eMule, do the same thing as well, but choose TCP and UDP at Traffic Type and key in the 5 digits number respectively.

Step 5: Click Save Setting and you are done!

Tips: To check if you have did the setup successfully, you may go to your eMule, Option, Connection. Click Test Ports. Your browser will show something like this if you are successful.

BONUS: Optimize your connection speed with TCP Optimizer!
The TCP Optimizer is a program designed to provide an easy, intuitive interface for tuning TCP and IP related parameters in the Windows Registry. It takes into account all related RFCs, the Microsoft TCP/IP implementation oddities, verifies all Registry locations for the same TCP/IP parameters (ICS Sharing, AOL protocol MTU, etc), only ads the necessary Registry parameters, and overall aids in making the whole "tweaking for speed" experience a breeze. It is downloadable from here: SG TCP Optimizer.
